Chisinau, 14 March /MOLDPRES/ - One of the priorities of the National Army is to expand the participation in the international peacekeeping missions and the new leadership of the Defence Ministry will undertake all measures necessary to achieve this goal. Defence Minister Viorel Cibotaru made statements to this effect at a meeting with Romanian Ambassador to Moldova Marius Lazurca on 13 February.
”The Defence Ministry’s management counts on the support of partners, including of Romania, who have a vast experience in participating in international peacekeeping missions under the United Nations Organisation’s aegis,” Viorel Cibotaru said. Cibotaru praised the assistance provided by Romania to train servicemen, as well as to carry out activities meant to modernise the defence sector.
For his part, Marius Lazurca underscored that the cooperation ties between the Romanian and Moldovan armies were or the rise and voiced confidence that they would further enhance.
The officials also approached joint interest items, such as the results of cooperation between the two armies and development of the security and defence sector of Moldova.
The collaboration between the Moldovan Defence Ministry and Romanian Ministry of National Defence started in December 1992, by signing the first cooperation agreement.
