UN to back speeding up enforcement of reforms in Moldova

Chisinau, 31 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici today met United Nations Resident Coordinator, UN Development Programme Resident Representative for Moldova Dafina Gercheva, on the occasion of the starting of her mandate in the country, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The sides discussed the importance of UNDP projects implemented in Moldova, which are included in the 2013-2017 Country Programme. The priority areas are: human rights, justice and equality; inclusive human development; environment and energy efficiency.
„The carrying out of numerous programmes over the past years has contributed to improving the living standards of the Moldovans,” Gaburici said.
For her part, Dafina Gercheva described as priority for the next period the projects on strengthening institutional capacities, aimed at economic and social development of Moldova and environment protection. Besides, Dafina Gercheva assured that UN would further support the achieving of national priorities and promoting sustainable development.
”Based on a fruitful cooperation, we will further back the Moldovan government, with a view of observing the fundamental human rights, promoting health and education reforms. At the same time, we will contribute to ensuring lasting economic growth, solving environmental problems,” Dafina Gercheva said.
At the same time, the officials spoke out for continuing projects within UNDP: „Moldova – energy and biomass”, „Confidence building measures in context of Transnistrian Conflict”, „Women in politics”, „Tax reforms in environmental sector”, as well as other initiatives in the local development area.
Dafina Gercheva was appointed UN Resident Coordinator to Moldova on 23 February 2015, succeeding Nicola Harrington.
