Moldovan Socialists put up candidate for Chisinau mayor office

Chisinau, 14 April /MOLDPRES/ - The Party of Socialists from Moldova (PSRM) today announced that Zinaida Greceanii was the party's candidate for the Chisinau mayor office at the general local elections due on 14 June.

PSRM leader Igor Dodon explained his choice by the fact that "the future mayor of Chisinau should not be active in politics or be a member of any political party."

"The PSRM candidate will not be engaged in geopolitics, will not fight with the East or West and will deal only with the capital's problems," said Dodon.

Zinaida Greceanii is a Moldovan MP on behalf of PSRM, but it is not a party member. She acted as prime minister of Moldova in 2008-2009.

Under the legislation, the Central Electoral Commission is to set up the district electoral councils no later than 50 days before the polls. The candidates for the position of mayor will be able to submit applications to join the race starting from 25 April.
