Chisinau, 29 April /MOLDPRES/ - An agreement on operational and strategic cooperation between Moldova and the European Police Office (EUROPOL) was approved for ratification. The cabinet took a decision to this respect today. The accord was signed in Chisinau on 18 December 2014, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The mentioned agreement’s ratification is a prerogative of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement and represents a confirmation of this sector's modernisation, in line with the European standards. Moreover, Moldova is the first Eastern Partnership state to sign such an accord.
EUROPOL represents the European law-enforcement agency, which assists the European Union states in fighting terrorism and serious criminality at international level and its goal is to ensure the security of the citizens from the European space.
EUROPOL also provides support in operational activities in concerned areas, such as: fighting drugs, human trafficking and illegal migration.
To enhance cooperation, including strategic and technical data exchange between the Moldovan and EUROPOL law-enforcement bodies, the National EUROPOL Contact Point was created within the Interior Ministry.
