Moldovan prosecutor general’ s office initiates extradition proceedings

Chisinau, July 26 /MOLDPRES/ – The Prosecutor General’ Office (PG) today will initiate proceedings on extradition of citizen Veaceslav Platon.
"The Prosecutor General's Office has been recently informed, via INTERPOL channels, about the fact of detention of citizen Veaceslav Platon, announced internationally wanted by our authorities, in Kiev, on 25 July," the PG press service has informed.
"The Prosecutor General's Office will initiate proceedings on extradition of citizen Veaceslav Platon, under the national and international laws laid down in such cases," the prosecution statement said.
Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office on 25 July issued a 30-day warrant of preventive arrest for businessman Veaceslav Platon. He is charged in the file of theft from Banca de Economii (BEM, Savings Bank), after he received bad loans worth 800 million lei.
According to PG information, the money was received from BEM in November 2014 and the period of getting the loans dates back from 2011. Subsequently, over 800 million lei was taken out of Moldova through international transactions via more banks from Latvia and the UK.
The National Abnticorruption Centre (CNA) has more criminal files on embezzlement of BEM and the Banca Sociala (Social Bank). It is about getting loans by fraud, appropriation of assets in especially large amounts, infringement of crediting rules, abuse of power, money laundering, mismanagement of BEM and Banca Sociala, as well as obstruction of banking supervision.
