Moldova registers record high deflation in 2016

Chisinau, 10 August /MOLDPRES/- Moldova registered deflation in July, the third time this year, the risk of decrease in consumer price index next months, anticipated by the National Bank of Moldova (BNM).
The inflation will return within the range of variation of ± 1.5 percentage points from 5.0 per cent –inflation target in the third quarter of 2016. The annual inflation rate recorded 7.0 per cent, down by 0.4 percentage points in July 2016 against the previous month.
The consumer price index was down by 0.9 per cent in July against June, in the context of decreasing in food prices by 2.2 per cent and non-food products by 0.2 per cent, according to the National Statistics Bureau (BNS). Statisticians also note that the prices for utility services increased by 0.3 per cent.
It is the third month in 2016, when the consumer price index is decreasing, in June and February – deflation of 0.3 and respectively 0.5 per cent was recorded, and in April and March the prices stagnated. Following the downward evolution of inflation in seven months (July 2016 against December 2015), a 0.9-per cent deflation was recorded.
