Chisinau, 11 April /MOLDPRES/- Twelve people have been detained for 72 hours by officers of the National Anti-Corruption Centre (CNA) and anti-corruption prosecutors in some searches conducted throughout the country on a corruption case, comprising officials, mayors and economic agents.
CNA spokeswoman Angela Starinschi said that among detainees were three mayors, four directors of secondary schools from different regions of the country and directors of five companies.
“They are suspected of organizing some dubious tenders held within the investment projects, thus favoring economic agents”, Starinschi said.
According to prosecutors and criminal investigation officers, representatives of the Energy Efficiency Fund would have acted in complicity with companies, representatives of local public authorities, local councilors and heads of educational institutions to organize schemes on redirecting funds in especially large amounts to companies promoted by people involved in this offense. It is about purchasing energy efficiency, thermal insulation, repairs and capital construction.
The action is still ongoing.
