Chisinau hosts Moldovan-Latvian inter-ministerial political consultations

Chisinau, 31 May /MOLDPRES/ – A round of Moldovan-Latvian interministerial consultations at the level of Foreign Ministers took place today in Chisinau, the Moldovan side being represented by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Lilian Darii, and the Latvian party by the Secretary of State within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Andrejs Pildegovičs.
According to the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service, the agenda included the dynamics of Moldovan-Latvian relations, European affairs, development assistance, cooperation in international organizations, settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and security in the region.
The officials also reviewed the events that would be held during the year on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Latvia.
Deputy Minister Darii appreciated the maintenance of the support for the European integration process of Moldova among the priorities of the foreign policy of Latvia. For his part, Secretary of State Pildegovičs confirmed the full readiness of the Latvian government to further support Moldova by providing indispensable assistance and expertise.
Similarly, it was noted the Latvian development assistance to Moldova in implementing the necessary reforms. The interlocutors appreciated effective sectoral and regional cooperation, including actions to promote economic potential at inter-regional level.
The Parties underlined the positive interaction within international organizations (UN, OSCE, Council of Europe, NATO), too.
Deputy Minister Darii also reviewed the developments in the Transnistrian case and the efforts aimed at finding a comprehensive and sustainable solution in format "5+2" negotiations, respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova and approving a special status for the Transnistrian region.
