Chisinau, 11 September /MOLDPRES/ - The director of the Apa-Canal Chisinau water supply stock company, Valeriu Mesca, at a today’s cabinet meeting was heard on the investigation of the situation at the Residual Waters Purifying Station, which has been triggering an unpleasant smell in the Moldovan capital for more days, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

Asked by Prime Minister Maia Sandu about the actions of the Apa-Canal Chisinau to solve the problem, Valeriu Mesca failed to give a conclusive answer. “You have a great responsibility at the institution and we must not mislead the citizens. You should inform the prosecutor’s office and other courts when you see that things do not happen just as they should. The citizens are certainly not contended with the answers they received today and they have no reason to tolerate this situation in continuation. We need people who undertake exact actions. What you have done is not enough, including the subject on enhancing the responsibility of economic agents to fulfill the law provisions,” Maia Sandu stressed.

The PM also referred to the issue of waste in Moldova and demanded the involvement of the cabinet of ministers and all citizens for its settlement. “I would like us to join the campaign of the group Hai Moldova (Come on, Moldova), which will collect electric and electronic waste all over the country during one month starting from 15 September. My appeal for all public institutions is to set bins for the collection of this waste: cables, batteries, old phones, computers, etc. And at the end of the campaign, on 15 October, this waste should be delivered to the Hai Moldova organization, which will take care for the objects to be processed. On 21 September, a sanitation action will take place throughout Moldova; the waste from the green areas will be collected. I invite all employees of the government and public institutions to join this action,” Maia Sandu said.

Also today, the prime minister highlighted the importance to hold free and fair local elections in Moldova.

„The local polls are nearing. We made us known all over the world at the local elections last year, when some personages dared to cancel the polls. This is a spot on the image of Moldova. Therefore, we should be quite careful, prepare very well and here I mean the state’s institutions in charge of the elections’ organization, as well as the ones whose employees in the past did not mind to use the administrative resource to make campaign for one or another party. This exercise is just as a school-leaving examination for this governance. Our further image depends on the way we will manage to ensure the fairness and freedom of these elections,” PM Maia Sandu noted.

In the context, the prime minister said that the governance would not allow certain personages, who used administrative resources in the past and distorted this process of free elections, to do this in continuation.

„My message is for all employees of public institutions, for the civil servants at the central and local levels, for the employees of the Public Services Agency, state enterprises, such as Posta Moldovei, Moldtelecom, etc. All of us know the ways applied by the Democratic Party through employees of these institutions. And some of these employees work there in continuation, as we have not come to dismiss everybody; we have come to make sure that everybody works correctly. Any attempt to infringe these rules, to use the administrative resource in the electoral campaign will be sanctioned quite toughly. I come up with a message to the Interior Ministry, as well as the other ministries, citizens and media: to photograph, film and report about all infringements. All those who will let themselves got involved in the electoral campaign during the working time and will thus use the state’s resources will be sanctioned quite severely. Also, the Central Electoral Commission has a quite serious task, as it should re-establish its image lost at the previous polls and make sure that all things are made fairly,” the prime minister added.
