Anti-corruption officers detained Floreni mayor, local councilor

Chisinau, 12 September /MOLDPRES/- Mayor of Floreni village, Anenii Noi and a local councilor were detained by the anti-corruption officers and prosecutors, suspected of claiming from a local businessman 350 thousand lei to legalize a land, which has been in use for several years.

Police initiated two criminal cases on passive corruption and influence peddling. According to the case materials, the suspects were supposed to influence the members of the local council to issue a decision to lease the land that had previously been taken abusively by the entrepreneur. The two would have proposed to the businessman to lease the lot and then offer the possibility of buying it.

The money was sent in three installments, under the control of the National Anticorruption Center. Following the transmission of the final payment, the mayor and counselor were flagrantly taken and escorted to the CNA. If found guilty, the detainees run the risk of up to 15 years in prison.
