Foreign affairs ministers of Moldova, Romania visit construction site of Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline

Chisinau, 9 October /MOLDPRES/ - The foreign affairs ministers of Moldova and Romania, Nicu Popescu and Ramona Manescu, respectively, today considered the current progress in the construction of the Ungheni-Chisinau segment of the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline, at a visit to the construction site, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.
The head of the Moldovan and Romanian diplomacies discussed with officials of the company in charge of the construction of the gas pipeline about the technical details of this process, as well as the terms scheduled for completing the construction.
Minister Nicu Popescu stressed the need to finish this gas pipeline as soon as possible. “The quicker we have this alternative route functional, the earlier the Moldovan authorities will be able to significantly advance as regards the improvement of not only the energy security, but also of the national security of Moldova,” the Moldovan foreign affairs minister said.
The commitment for completing the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline was also included in a roadmap, signed by the two ministers in Chisinau today; the roadmap regards the cooperation in more fields of common interest.
