Moldovan PM meets foreign affairs minister of Romania

Chisinau, 09 October /MOLDPRES/ – On Wednesday, 09 October, Prime Minister, Maia Sandu, has had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Ramona Manescu, which has paid a working visit to Chisinau municipality.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the officials have discussed the strengthening of relations of Moldova – Romania and implementation of the roadmap on priority areas of cooperation of Moldova and Romania. The delegations have reviewed the main projects that are in progress and are to be carried out in Moldova with the support of Romania.

The Moldovan PM has expressed her gratitude for the support provided by Romania to Moldova and she has specified upon the importance of active political dialogue and broad sectoral cooperation developed within the European Strategic Partnership (ESP). The Premier has mentioned that Romania is a reliable trading partner, and the trade – economic relations have a positive dynamic.

"We appreciate the promptness and openness with which the Government of Romania has responded to the request of the Government of Moldova regarding the support to achieve our objective of ranging and adjusting Moldova to European standards and values ​​by modernising it, eradicating corruption and reforming justice," said Maia Sandu.

PM Maia Sandu and Ramona Manescu have appreciated the achievement of successful joint projects, expressing their interest for their continuation in priority areas: education, culture, energy, agriculture etc.

“Romania is firm in providing support to Moldova by implementing more cooperation projects. It is about support of energy infrastructure that is mutually advantageous, political support for strengthening bilateral relations, but also financial ones. The commitment of Romania to Moldova is already part of the DNA of the Romanian state and it will continue with the same intensity, regardless of who is in Government or who is president in Romania,” said Ramona Manescu.

Also, it has been mentioned, so that as to deepen the relations of Moldova and Romania, it is necessary to speed up the interconnection projects of energy infrastructure. On it, it was emphasised the importance of completing the construction works of the Iasi – Ungheni – Chisinau gas pipeline, planned for April – May 2020.

Regarding the fluidisation of border traffic, it has been reiterated the importance of coordinating common actions, including synchronisation of number of personnel of customs authorities and border police at the crossing points, so as to avoid traffic jams. Also, it has been welcomed the positive evolution registered in the process of negotiations on reducing roaming charges.

Maia Sandu and Ramona Manescu have confirmed their interest in carrying out these projects in the interest of citizens and expressed their conviction that, further on, Moldova and Romania will maintain a dense calendar of bilateral consultations in implementation of priority agenda.
