Moldovan foreign affairs ministry hosts meeting of Managing Committee for Implementation of Council of Europe's Action Plan for Moldova 2017-2020

Chisinau, 11 October /MOLDPRES/ - The actions and priorities due to be included in the present Moldova – Council of Europe (CoE) action plan for 2017-2020 have been discussed at an enlarged meeting at the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE). Minister Nicu Popescu, Director of the Office of the Council of Europe’s Directorate General of Programmes Verena Taylor, Head of the CoE Office in Chisinau William Massolin, as well as of representatives of Moldova’s national authorities, parliament, MAEIE, Interior Ministry 9MAI), Justice Ministry, National Anticorruption Centre (CNA), etc., participated in the event.    

According to the MAEIE, public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service, at the meeting, the representatives of the Council of Europe and national authorities exchanged opinions on the impact of the projects finished and the ones underway. They also identified the actions and priorities due to be included in the present action plan Moldova – Council of Europe for the 2019-2020 period.   

In her speech, the Moldovan diplomacy head thanked CoE for contribution in diverse sectors of strategic importance for Moldova. Nicu Popescu highlighted the impact and results of the assistance projects’ implementation in such fields as strengthening democracy and the rule of law state, observance of human rights. At the same time, Popescu stressed the need to mobilize domestic and external resources, in order to advance the reform processes in Moldova, visible for citizens.  

The meetings of this kind are already traditional and are meant to assess the implementation of actions stipulated in the CoE-Moldova cooperation framework, in the context of the joint action plans.  

The Council of Europe’s action plan for Moldova 2017-2020 was adopted by the Delegation of the CoE’s Committee of Ministers on 1 February 2017 and launched in Chisinau on 30 May 2017. The document’s goal is to back the implementation of reforms in the priority sectors and includes projects on combating corruption and money laundering, enhancing the independence and efficiency of the judicial system, fighting the ill treatments and impunity, measures to build trust between the two banks of Dniester, children’s protection against exploitation and sexual abuse, education for democracy, etc. The projects of the Action Plan are estimated at about 18 million euros.
