Chisinau, 11 October /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister, Maia Sandu, has paid a visit to city Comrat, Gagauzia, on Friday, 11 October, during which she inspected the work site of the city circumvention belt. The road will be built on a length of 18.3 km, and the project cost has been estimated at €30 mln, offered by the European Investment Bank (EIB), the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The works began in February 2019 and are due to end in January 2022. Maia Sandu has mentioned that the authorities are asking those responsible for such projects to honour their obligations, and the citizens should not be in a position to wait for years. repair of a road. "I hope that the realisation of this project will be a positive example. We have many roads to repair. Thus, those companies that will prove that they fulfill their contractual commitments have the chance to win other contracts in Moldova. In upcoming years we shall continue to invest in road repairs, by allocating money from state budget (BS), but also by financing from external donors,” said PM.

Located in Comrat, Maia Sandu also wanted to be present at the marking event of 55 years since the founding of Theoretical High School Nicolae Tretiacov, in which there study over 1,000 pupils. Maia Sandu congratulated the teachers and thanked them for their professional dedication and for their investment in the education of future generations.

"I saw that the pupils here are cheerful, a sign that they feel good in this institution. I saw that almost all teachers are young, which I have never seen in another school. I really wish we could keep them here in the country, which is why I hope to improve their working and living conditions soon. You, the teachers, have the task and mission to teach them to be competitive, useful to society, but the most important thing is to teach them to be happy”, stated PM.

Maia Sandu also visited the Mihai Eminescu High School in city Comrat, the only institution with teaching in Romanian in Comrat. Here, the Prime Minister brought good news for pupils and teachers: The Government of Romania approved the allocation of about MDL 780,000 from the Programme of assistance for Moldova (PARM), money needed for construction of a study block adjacent to the High School. Thus, it will begin the construction of the building in a few months. At the same time, the contribution of the Gagauzian authorities, for this purpose, will amount to around MDL 09 mln.

Also, Maia Sandu discussed with the local public authorities (APL) of Gagauzia. The Premier said that at present, the situation is difficult, because the ex – Government made it so that the best persons leave Moldova. "I have been working with APL since 1994, but the situation has never seemed more complicated to me than before. I understand that the priorities of your region are exactly the same as those of the whole country: jobs, higher salaries, quality services. We make every effort to create these conditions for all citizens of Moldova and we work hard to succeed in doing so a.s.a.p.”.

Similarly, Maia Sandu spoke about the support of Government in solving the issue of teaching the Romanian language to children in kindergartens. "I understand that the problem is the lack of specialised staff in this field. After all, in a few years we could wake up without teachers of maths, physics or chemistry. That is why, we are working hard to take urgent measures and, above all, make order in education”, added PM.

During the meeting with Gagauzia Bashkan, Irina Vlah congratulated Maia Sandu on the first working visit to the region and invited the Cabinet to organise a meeting in Gagauzia. At her part, the Prime Minister gave assurances that shortly it would be finalised the Executive action plan for autonomous region, while a visit to Gagauzia of entire Government team would be made later.
