Members of Council of Europe express support for parliamentary majority of Moldova

Chisinau, 11 October /MOLDPRES/ – The Speaker of Parliament of Moldova, Zinaida Greceanii, has met today with the delegation of the Ambassadors of the Group of Rapporteurs for Democracy (GR – DEM) of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CoE), together with the head of the Office of CoE in Chisinau, William Massolin,. The delegation is in a documenting visit to Chisinau, at the invitation of the authorities of Moldova, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
During the discussions, there were addressed more topical issues of Moldova, including the reform of justice and prosecutor's office, fight against corruption, human rights, collaboration with civil society, mass media situation, etc.
The ambassadors of the Group of Rapporteurs for Democracy expressed the support of CoE and the states it represents for the parliamentary coalition of Moldova in its efforts to carry out reforms and develop Moldova.
"We appreciate the partnership with CoE and constant interest shown in evolution of Moldova. Your support of the parliamentary majority is an encouragement for the steps we must continue to take, so as to regain the total confidence of external partners and citizens of Moldova," said SP.
The members of the Group are in Moldova in order to evaluate the implementation of the CoE Action Plan for Moldova 2017 – 2020 and facilitate the dialogue with delegations of the donor states. The evaluations of the Group of Rapporteurs for Democracy will be presented at a meeting with the entire Committee of Ministers of CoE, in an extended format and it will influence both the financial and political support for Moldova.
The Council of Europe Action Plan for Moldova 2017 – 2020 was adopted by the Delegates of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on 01 February 2017. It includes projects on combating corruption and money laundering, increasing independence and effectiveness of judiciary, combating ill – treatment and impunity, confidence – building measures between the two banks of the Dniester, protection of children against sexual exploitation and abuse, education for democracy, etc. The provisions of the Action Plan of the Council of Europe for Moldova support the achievement of the Moldova – EU Association Agreement.
