People campaigning on election day to be fined

Chisinau, 17 October /MOLDPRES/- Campaigning on election day and the day before the election will be punished with a fine. The legislative amendments to the Contravention Code will enter into force on 18 October.

The amendments made by the Parliament to article 52 of the Contravention Code come to bring the legislation in line with the provisions of the Electoral Code, which prohibits the electoral agitation both on election day and on the day before the elections.

Under the Article 52 of the Contravention Code, campaigning on the day preceding voting day or on election day is sanctioned with a fine from 10 to 20 conventional units applied to private people and with a fine from 40 to 50 conventional units to official person or electoral candidate.
