Women in Business pilot programme of Moldova to be extended till 2022

Chisinau, 18 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Women in Business pilot programme will be extended till 2022, under a decision approved at a cabinet meeting today. The programme will be financially backed from the state budget, including from the technical assistance provided by development partners.
Launched in 2016, the programme has proved to be an efficient governmental instrument for the development of women’s entrepreneurship in Moldova. In 2016-2019, a number of 408 women have been assisted in the process of starting business through associate training and consultancy - by 36 per cent more than scheduled and 179 women registered their business in the first six months after participation in training. As a result, 443 jobs were created, by 32 per cent more than planned.
As many as 587 applications on non-refundable financing have been submitted in all, of which 282 investment projects were selected for financing according to the programme, 2.8-fold more against the scheduled number. The sum of grants approved is 39.58 million lei, which favours investments in the economy worth about 63.08 million lei. About 55 per cent of the companies approved for financing are from the processing industry, 36 per cent – from providing services, nine percent – from agriculture and animal husbandry.
The budget for the extension of the progamme, which will be called, Women in Business programme, was estimated at 45 million lei. The sources needed for the programme’s implementation were planned in the medium-term budgetary framework for 2020-2022.
