About 36 per cent Chisinau residents come to vote to elect mayor

Chisinau, 20 October /MOLDPRES/ - The local elections in Chisinau can be regarded as valid. About 36.05 per cent of the voters registered in the electoral lists voted till 21:00. The voter turnout is lower than at the ballot from 2015, as well as than at the local polls from 2018.
According to the online application of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), till this time, 229,635 electors exercised their right to vote at the polling stations from Moldova’s capital. Just as all over the country, most voters, over 55.7 per cent, were women. Elderly people remain the most active citizens. People younger than 25 years are the most passive voters.
In Balti, the participation rate was lower than at the previous ballots, 36.11 per cent. Women with about 57.8 per cent and elderly persons were the most active voters in this city too.
Eighteen candidates were registered for the office of Chisinau mayor and 11 contenders fought for the Balti mayor position.
