Moldovan president has meeting with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights

Chisinau, 13 March /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon today had a meeting with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović, on a working visit to Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.
At the meeting, the head of state appreciated Moldova’s partnership with the Council of Europe and the interest with which the Organization was following the developments in Moldova.
In the context, Igor Dodon thanked for the Council of Europe’s constant support and openness to assist Moldova on the way of reforms. He reiterated that the justice reform represented the priority No 1 of the current Moldovan leadership.
A special subject of the discussion was the situation dealing with the defence of human rights in the Transnistrian region, which triggers concern of Moldova’s constitutional authorities. In particular, the head of state touched upon the topic of Moldova’s citizens who are illegally detained in the Transnistrian region, as well as the situation of the Latin-script schools.
At the same time, the officials referred to the process of ratification of the Istanbul Convention. The Moldovan president informed about the procedural stages the authorities were carrying out to this end.
