Chisinau, 28 September /MOLDPRES/ - Fruits from Moldova this season as well captivated the interest from the area of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), where hundreds of tons of Moldovan fruits might be exported. This happened, after ten members of the Moldova Fruct Association of Fruits Producers and Exporters had participated in one of the biggest specialty exhibitions, WorldFood Moscow, staged in Russia’s capital on 22-25 September.
Moldova’s participation in the exhibition fits into a yearly action plan elaborated by the Investments Agency, which provides platforms and practical instruments for quality exports, including through the presence at the biggest specialized exhibitions in the world.
„The Agency is the promoter of ‘’made in Moldova’’ products on foreign markets and implements national policies of exports’ facilitation. In the last two years, about 150 companies have participated in international exhibitions; over 220 contracts were signed and following participations, the exports brought about 11 million euros. For Moldova, Russia’s market is one of the principal markets for the export of Moldovan fruits. Therefore, we backed the country’s participation three years in a row, in the WorldFood Exhibition, in order to turn to account this important opportunity, which will ensure the export of Moldovan fruits,’’ the director general of the Investments Agency, Rodica Verbeniuc, said.
On the period of the pandemic, more specialty events were cancelled; therefore, the traditional staging of the WorldFood Moscow exhibition might generate, in drought conditions, exports of about 200,000 tons of apples, 30,000 tons of plums and 40,000 tons of table grapes from Moldova.
„The participation in this international exhibition has an important role, in order to show potential clients what assortment of fresh and processed fruits we have. Besides the fact that we promote fruits, we promote Moldova as fruits supplier. At the same time, at the exhibition, we could communicate with clients we have already, as well as to establish new contacts, even if the pandemic negatively influenced the flow of visitors. Thus, potential clients were preponderantly from Russia’s regions and about 100 visitors showed interest in Moldovan fruits,’’ the executive director of Moldova Fruct, Iurie Fala, said.
The Moscow event attracted more than 20,000 visitors interested in Moldovan fruits, such as apples, plums, table grapes, as well as tinned fruits and vegetables. WorldFood Moscow is traditionally visited by representatives of all trade networks from Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Belarus – traditional markets for Moldovan fruits.
The exhibition represents a platform of communication between exporters and importers, a possibility to analyze and learn the requirements and tendencies of the market, as well as set new partnerships. According to a report by organizers, in 2019, 81 per cent of the participants in WorldFood Moscow found new clients and partrners and 95 per cent described the exhibition as important for the business environment.
