Chisinau, Dec. 16 /MOLDPRES/- In the third quarter of this year, the Republic of Moldova ended up with renewable energy power plants with an installed capacity of 521 MW or 11 times more than in 2019. The Energy Ministry unveiled the data today.
The installed capacity of renewable energy production in the Republic of Moldova has increased by more than 55% this year compared to the previous year, with the biggest progress in photovoltaic installations.
According to data of the National Center for Sustainable Energy (CNED), the total installed capacity saw an increase of 162 MW compared to 2023. Compared to 2018, this capacity has increased by more than 321 MW, i.e. 6 times more. Of the total 383 MW, photovoltaic plants account for 206 MW and wind - 154 MW.
In the case of photovoltaic plants, in nine months of this year, the capacity has almost doubled. The capacity of wind plants increased from 126 MW in 2023 to 154 MW in 2024, which is an increase of more than 22%.
Three support mechanisms for green energy producers are applied in the Republic of Moldova.
This summer, in a first for the Republic of Moldova, the Ministry of Energy launched the tender for the construction of onshore wind power plants with a capacity of up to 105 MW and photovoltaic plants with a maximum capacity of 60 MW. The power plants will be built by investors who will receive the status of large eligible producer and guarantees that they will be supplied with the energy produced for 15 years.
