Heavy rainfall hit more settlements in southern Moldova, Chisinau

Chisinau, 29 September /MOLDPRES/ - Employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) today were alerted in more settlements of Moldova, in order to intervene in the liquidation of the consequences of the heavy rainfall. So far, settlements from southern Moldova and the capital have been the worst hit.  

According to IGSU territorial subdivisions, rescuers are mobilized to pump water from more households of the settlements Tomai, Covurlui, Tochile-Raducani and Cuporani, southern Leova district, as well as of the Fetita settlement, southern Cimislia district. ‘’In the Cimislia town, rescuers intervened to pump water from the Ion Creanga theoretical lyceum and in the Fetita settlement, IGSU employees carried out works of pumping from seven households,’’ IGSU sources said.    

Operative information shows that the precipitation damaged two bridges in the settlement Tochile-Raducani and more gardens from the Colibabovca village, Leova district, were stuck in mud.

An urgent intervention of rescuers takes place in the southern Comrat city (Gagauz autonomy), where more segments of the local road was hit by rains. In Gagauzia, IGSU employees intervened in 25 situations to liquidate the consequences of the heavy rains. Also, in Chisinau, on the Uzinelor Street, pumpers evacuated more than 1,000 litres of water flowing from a food store and two persons were evacuated. Because of the big water flow, lids from the wells collecting rain water were pulled out on roadway.   .

In case of risk situations, people are asked to urgently call the 112 Service.   

The State Hydrometeorological Service announced yellow code of atmospheric instability all over Moldova for 29 September. Thunderstorm rains are forecast for today, heavy ones during the day (15-49 litres/square metre), quite heavy rains in places (50-70 litres/square metre), strong wind in some regions, gusting to 15-18 metres/second. Rains are expected on the next two days as well.
