Moldovan Prosecutor General's Office demands extradition of Vladimir Plahotniuc from Turkey

Chisinau, 29 September /MOLDPRES/- Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo today signed a petition, thereby asking the authorities of Turkey to extradite the former leader of the Democratic Party (PDM), Vladimir Plahotniuc, in order to be called to account in Moldova.
According to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG), the action comes following an official notification, received by PG today, on the defendant’s entry in Turkey on 10 September 2020, where he is said to have stayed till present.
PG informs that the entire set of acts inherent to this procedure has been already sent to the Turkish side, including the demand for extradition, having at the basis the European Convention signed in Paris on 13 December 1957.
The former PDM leader was put on a wanted list, in contumacy, after prosecutors had brought a charge against him on three counts: ‘’creation and leadership of a criminal organization,’’ ‘swindle,’’ and ‘’money laundering,’’ committed in particularly large amount.
