Moldovan justice ministry asks re-approval of draft amendment to Constitution

Chisinau, 30 September /MOLDPRES/- Justice Minister Fadei Nagacevschi announced today at a briefing that he will ask the government to re-approve the draft amendment to the Constitution, rejected by the Constitutional Court.
The document is also supported by the Council of Europe and is worked out in line with the recommendations of the Venice Commission. "Following the agreements reached with the Council of Europe, the approvals on the draft constitutional amendment, I will request re-approval of the draft amendment to the Constitution, with some adjustments to respect the solution pronounced by the Constitutional Court", he said.
He noted that amending the legislation is part of Moldova’s commitments for financing from the EU and IMF.
The document provides for the annulment of the appointment of judges for an initial term of 5 years, the exclusion of the parliament from the process of appointing judges to the Supreme Court of Justice and establishing the composition of the 12-member Superior Council of Magistracy.
