Chisinau, 1 October /MOLDPRES/ - The International Day of Older Persons is annually marked in Moldova on 1 October. Starting from today, the pensioners and low-income people will receive a one-off assistance worth 900 lei on behalf of the state.
The Moldovan leadership conveyed congratulatory messages, on the occasion of marking the International Day of Older Persons.
In his message, President Igor Dodon said that this day was a homage paid to those who edified societies and contributed to their development during their entire life. ‘’Centuries in a row, our parents, grandparents and grand-grandparents preserved and conveyed us priceless treasures: the mother language and culture, crafts and occupations, traditions and values. And we just have nothing to do but to be grateful to them for everything they have carried out, for the wisdom and generosity, for the patience and kindness with which they became great and continue to be,’’ the president’s message reads.
Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii and Prime Minister Ion Chicu came up with messages for elderly people too.
„The government will continue to make needed efforts for those who edified the history and educated generations. We wish you good health, dear grandparents, parents,’’ the PM said in this message.
„There are people and destinies behind statistics. They are the people who built Moldova. They are the ones who brought up and educated generations of citizens. We deeply bow before the major contribution brought to the country’s edification and development,’’ Greceanii said.
The one-off support worth 900 lei will be paid to 660,000 people starting from today. More than 133 million lei was allocated to make these payments. The money will be paid simultaneously with the pension and social allocation.
The indexation of pensions and social allocations is to take place as of 1 October too.
