Chisinau, 2 October /MOLDPRES/ - Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Oleg Tulea has reiterated Moldova’s support for the process of working out of a global framework of action, in order to preserve the biodiversity within the pre-registered speech at the Summit on Biodiversity, launched on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s press service has reported.

In the speech of Moldova’s delegation, Oleg Tulea welcomed the assiduous activity of the working group for biodiversity. He spoke out for the sustainable use of the biodiversity in the advancement of the process of implementation of the sustainable development goals, in particular, of the goal 15 (Life on Land), which targets the conservation of ecosystems and attenuation of the anthropogenic factor on the biodiversity, forests and soil.

The Moldovan official informed the international community about the adoption of the Moldova 2030 National Strategy on Moldova’s sustainable development in the beginning of this year. The document implies taking responsibility for urgent actions on biodiversity through the creation of efficient financial instruments and mechanisms for ensuring the biological biodiversity and activities of genetic resources’ conservation.

Taking into account the amount of the resources needed to achieve the sustainable development goals, the aim of Moldova as part of the Convention on Biological Diversity and other multilateral agreements on environment is to integrate in the national policies all approaches based on the protection of ecosystems, promotion of the sustainable consumption and re-establishment of the biodiversity’s losses.

From this viewpoint, Moldova signed the Leaders’ Pledge for Nature – a document presently signed by 66 heads of state and government, which invokes the necessity of recovery of the loss of biodiversity till 2030 and achieving the sustainable development goals.
