Moldovan parliament speaker discusses with representatives of National Democratic Institute

Chisinau, 7 October /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii today had an online meeting with the team of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) from Washington D.C., which makes an analysis of the situation in Moldova in the pre-electoral context.     

According to the parliament’s communication and public relations general department, during the discussion, the parliament speaker stressed the importance and role of the parliament in ensuring a correct, fair, transparent electoral process and equal for each electoral contender registered in the presidential race. ‘’The presidential elections must be transparent and correct. We are open for the participation of an as large as possible number of foreign observers in the ballot,’’ Zinaida Greceanii said.   

At the same time, the speaker referred to the protection of voters’ health within the voting procedure, strict implementation by the Central Electoral Commission of all epidemiological requirements and observance of the sanitary norms.

For their part, representatives of the National Democratic Institute said that, following an analysis they are to make, they would launch a report with findings and recommendations for the authorities. In the context, they showed interest in the latest amendments to the Electoral Code, organization of the voting procedure in the Transnistrian region and Diaspora, ensuring of the participation of women and ethnic minorities in the electoral campaigns, as well as mass media’s involvement in the coverage of the presidential polls.    

The National Democratic Institute is a non-governmental organization, which meets the aspirations of people from all over the world to live in a democratic society, who recognize and promote the fundamental human rights.
