Assets from abroad of former leader of Moldovan Democratic Party to be sequestered

Chisinau, 12 October /MOLDPRES/ - The authorities of Romania, France and Switzerland are to levy distraint on the assets estimated at more than 160 million lei of Vlad Plahotniuc.
According to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG), it is about the defendant’s villas from Switzerland, France and Romania, five touring cars and a boat registered in Switzerland. Also, nine apartments registered on the name of Plahotniuc’s wife, as well as four touring cars registered in Moldova are to be sequestrated too.
According to prosecutors, the movable and immovable assets would have resulted from the money purloined from the banking system. Also, to ensure the recovery of the damage caused by the offences, prosecutors insisted on levying distraint on Vlad Plahotniuc’s assets of Moldova and from abroad.
All assets of Plahotniuc from Moldova have been already sequestrated.
The former leader of the Moldovan Democratic Party was put on a wanted list, in contumacy, after prosecutors had brought a charge against him on three counts: ‘’creation and leadership of a criminal organization,’’ ‘swindle’’ and ‘’ money laundering,’’ committed in particularly large amounts.
