Chisinau, 13 October /MOLDPRES/ - The first service for hiring electric scooters, iRide, was launched in the Moldovan capital today. The project is carried out with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Global Environment Facility (GEF) and its goal is to contribute to the promotion of the environment-friendly alternative transport.
Attending the even on the service’s launch were the Chisinau general mayor, Ion Ceban, and UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova Dima Al-Khatib.
„This service is a good opportunity, as well as an alternative for those who want to move in the city by scooters, but have no possibility to buy them or do not want to do this. Work is still to be carried out to create the infrastructure for these types of transport; we make small but sure steps to this end, for creating conditions in the capital,’’ Ceban said.
The UNDP representative noted that the present practices of strategic urban planning and development were focused more and more on the intelligent and ecological mobility and the alternative urban transport has an important place in the policies of development of modern urban agglomerations. ‘’Chisinau also finds its transport network, in order to provide people with sure, efficient and comfortable alternatives for travel, either by public or private transport, by bicycle or by foot. This is ever more necessary now, when we go through the COVID-19 crisis and want to re-edify a better and more ecological future,’’ Dima Al-Khatib said.
The scooters provided by iRide can reach a speed of 25 km/our, carrying a maximal weight of 100 kg and having an accumulator which provides autonomy for up to 25 km.
To be able to hire scooters, it is necessary to make the following steps: registration on the site https://iride.md; finding the nearest location of iRide parking; hiring the scooter; returning the scooter at the most suitable location with iRide parking. The payment is made at the end of the hiring session, by using a bank card.
Presently, the iRide service has 30 electric scooters available in the most populated zones of Chisinau. The service was created with the support of GEF-UNDP Moldova Sustainable Green Cities Project.
