Moldovan PM has phone conversation with Bulgarian counterpart

Chisinau, 14 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu on 13 October evening had a phone conversation with PM of Bulgaria Boyko Borissov. The officials discussed the progress made on the bilateral agenda and prospects for the development and strengthening of the Moldovan-Bulgarian relations in diverse sectors of mutual interest, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The discussions’ agenda contained such subjects as: boosting the bilateral dialogue; developing joint projects and initiatives, meant to contribute to the strengthening of the Moldovan-Bulgarian relations; advancement in the process of implementation of the reforms’ agenda and implementation of the Association Agreement with EU; exchange of opinions on both states’ experience in overcoming the challenges triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic; cooperation in the education, science and culture sectors; consolidating the commercial and economic ties; attracting investments and development of business partnerships.   

The PM highlighted the success of the Moldovan-Bulgarian business forum, recently held online. In the context, Ion Chicu encouraged Bulgarian investors and companies to turn into account Moldova’s investment opportunities.

Ion Chicu expressed thanks to the Bulgarian government for the support provided on the period of the pandemic. ‘’ The gesture of the Bulgarian nation and authorities is a display of the traditional friendship relations and a proof of solidarity on such a difficult period for all states. We are sure that the support of friendly countries, including Bulgaria, will allow Moldova cope with this extremely difficult situation,’’ the prime minister said.   

Another subject tackled was the one on the work and development of the Grigore Tamblac State University from the southern Taraclia city. The sides noted that they declared for jointly identifying sustainable solutions to this end, including from the viewpoint of the transformations in the national higher education system and its adjusting to the strategic approaches and quality standards of the higher education in the European area. ‘’We will ensure the sustainability of all education institutions which provide quality education, creating needed conditions, so that young people from Moldova, including those from Taraclia, get relevant qualifications, recognized diplomas and competitive abilities on the labour force market,’’ the Moldovan official said.   

Prime Minister Chicu also thanked the Bulgarian side for the delegation of more teachers from Bulgaria to education institutions of Moldova, in order to ensure a high level of teaching the Bulgarian language in the country.

The PM said that Bulgaria continued to remain an important partner of Moldova, providing consistent support and assistance for the promotion of the reforms’ agenda and implementation of the Association Agreement with EU.

In the end of the discussion, the prime minister of Bulgaria invited Prime Minister Ion Chicu to pay a visit to Bulgaria.
