Chisinau, 14 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today attended a ceremony on the inauguration of the international specialized exhibitions MOLDAGROTECH and FARMER – 2020. This year, the event is held at the Plant Growing Institute from the Porumbeni settlement, nearby Chisinau, in a new format.
According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the PM described the exhibition as an efficient platform of dialogue between farmers, agricultural companies, producers and providers of equipment and materials for agriculture, central and local public authorities, as well as the scientific environment.
„We witness the launch of the autumn issue of the biggest agricultural exhibition in Moldova. Its mission is to provide the local agricultural industry with modern equipment and technologies, which would contribute to enhancing the efficiency and increasing the profits in the agriculture,’’ Ion Chicu said.
The PM stressed that the state, through the subsidization mechanism, backed the development of the agro-industrial sector. Most financial sources are aimed at modernizing the agricultural technology and irrigation equipment, developing the horticultural sector and the infrastructure for processing farming goods. The sum of the subsidies demanded by farmers has amounted to 1.8 billion lei in the last five years.
Given that, in 2020, most crops were hit by the unfriendly weather conditions, the participants in the last cabinet meeting discussed the increase of the sum of 300 million lei, additionally allocated to the agriculture subsidization fund, in order to compensate the losses borne by producers at the first-group cereals.
„We want to modernize the agriculture, so that it becomes attractive for all actors involved in the agro-industrial process, including young farmers and women. The government will continue elaborating efficient policies in the sector,’’ the prime minister said.
The international specialized exhibitions MOLDAGROTECH and FARMER are staged on 14-17 October 2020. About 50 companies from Moldova, Romania and Ukraine participate in the event.
