Chisinau, 19 October /MOLDPRES/ - The National Statistics Bureau (BNS) will switch to the digitalization of data collected by operators of opinion polls. To facilitate this process, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with the support of the Swiss Cooperation Office, donated 200 tablets to BNS.
The devices will be used for collecting data at taking censuses of examining households. So far, opinion poll operators have been collecting data on paper and afterwards they were introducing it in electronic format.
”All modern states implement new ways of collecting data, with the use of new information technologies. The use of tablets to this end is an important and inevitable step for modernizing the collection of data and the national statistics system,’’ the director of the National Statistics Bureau, Oleg Cara, said.
”I hope that the 200 tablets, provided jointly by UNFPA and Switzerland, will back the digitalization of statistics operations nationally and locally and will enhance the accuracy and quality of data, as well as the speed of its accessing,’’ the UNFPA resident representative in Moldova, Nigina Abaszada, said.
According to the director of the Swiss Cooperation, Caroline Tissot, the statistics of good quality is important for Moldova, just as for any country. ‘’We have an agenda, called Agenda 2030, which is based on the Sustainable Development Goals, and all countries, including Switzerland, Moldova, accepted and signed and the statistics is also important for the way we advance in monitoring this agenda,’’ Caroline Tissot said.
The digitalization of the collection of data is part of the Strategy of Development of the National Statistics System 2016-2020 and of the Sustainable Development Goals, which sees the offering of good quality disaggregated data, the achievement of which was assumed by Moldova as well.
