Advantages of investments in IT considered at forum of business people in Moldova

Chisinau, 21 October /MOLDPRES/ - The fiscal facilities, digitalization of public services, quickness of the Internet , multilingual human capital and simplifying the interaction with the authorities are just some of the advantages which make Moldova attractive for foreign investors in the IT sector.
These and other opportunities have been presented to business people, members of the Belgian-Luxembourg-Romanian Chamber of Commerce (BEROCC) at an online webinar titled, Explore the regional competitive advantages of Moldova in IT, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Shared Service Centre (SSC). The event was organized by the Investments Agency, with the support of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) on 20 October.
At the webinar, potential investors benefited from information on state’s policies in backing a friendly entrepreneurial and investment climate, as well as the advantages provided by Moldova for developing the IT sector. At the same time, the Belgian companies working on the Moldovan market shared their experience, completing the general vision.
„Moldova is quite well positioned in terms of the telecommunications infrastructure, with a mobile penetration of 100 per cent and a presence of optic fiber network of 98.2 per cent. This fact represents a solid fundament for the development of the IT, BPO and SSC sectors, which generate services with added value for the national economy and allow the employment and motivation of young gifted people. This, the IT industry has grown thrice in the last four years and the volume of services exported for 2019 exceeded the export in the country’s wine-making industry,’’ the director general of the Investments Agency, Rodica Verbeniuc, said.
During 2015-2019, the IT industry registered a three-fold increase in the annual incomes from sales – from 126 million dollars to 396 million dollars – accounting for 3.1 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product.
To give an impetus to the development of the information and innovation technologies, the government in 2018 launched a single model of promotion of the IT ecosystem – IT Virtual Park, which presently has already more than 600 residents from such countries as the United States, Romania, Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany. Moldova ranks fourth in the world concerning the population covered with Internet of one gigabyte and the sixth country in terms of the Internet’s accessibility.
