Ministry of Finance, European Commission signed financing agreement

Chisinau, 27 October /MOLDPRES/- The Ministry of Finance and the European Commission (EC) have signed a financing agreement between the Moldovan government and EC for the implementation of the project Facility to support the response of the health system to the emergency COVID-19 and reforms under the Association Agreement, worth 9 million euros, non-reimbursable assistance.
The agreement is meant to provide support to Moldova to respond to the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to implement the reforms under the Association Agreement European Union - Republic of Moldova / Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area.
The financing agreement comprises four components: 5 million euros to strengthen the capacity of the public health system to respond to the COVID-19 emergency; 2 million euros for strengthening supervisory capacity, corporate governance and risk management in the financial sector.
The third component provides for the consolidation of the rule of law, justice and security - one million euros.
The agreement is part of the European Union's 2020 Annual Action Program for the Republic of Moldova, funded under the European Neighborhood Instrument.
The beneficiaries of the financing agreement are: Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Ministry of Finance, other public institutions such as the National Bank, National Financial Market Commission, General Prosecutor's Office, National Institute of Justice, etc. as well as representatives of civil society and local media.
The actions due to be financed under the agreement will take place in 2020-2026 and will be implemented through direct and indirect management, under the financing agreement.
