Moldovan government approves draft strategy on justice sector for 2021-2024

Chisinau, 28 October /MOLDPRES/ - The government has approved and is to submit to parliament for consideration a draft law on the approval of the strategy on ensuring the independence and integrity of the justice sector for 2021-2024 and the action plan for its implementation.    

Under the cabinet decision, ‘’for Moldova, the improvement of the justice sector has been and remains a major priority, which is of overwhelming importance for the entire society and represents an essential condition for the development of really a democratic society, in which the supremacy of law and observance of the human rights and freedoms represent supreme guaranteed values.’’

„A modern justice, in which the independence and efficiency are ensured, represents more than just a desideratum. The general goal, strategic directions and specific objectives of the Strategy target the critical problems and vulnerabilities of the justice sector, recorded in evaluation reports and in discussions with sector’s actors and is focused on the coherence and continuity of the previous reforms, on the further modernization of the sector, enhancing the efficiency, quality and access to justice, as well as is oriented on new tendencies approached in the justice field by more European structures,’’ the document reads.   

Each strategic direction and goal contained in the current Strategy are included in the following principles, the observance of which is essential for the implementation of a modern judicial system: observance of the rule of law state, supremacy of law and human rights; guaranteeing a true separation and balance of the state powers, by strengthening the independence and integrity of the judicial power; ensuring the stability of the normative and institutional framework; institutional consolidation and loyal cooperation between the institutions with powers in the management of the judicial system and fulfilling justice; implementation of the best European practices dealing with the work of the judicial system; ensuring the transparency of the justice act.

The public authorities and institutions will undertake needed measures to carry out the action plan for the implementation of the Strategy on ensuring the independence and integrity of the justice sector for 2021-2024.
