Russia supports Moldova's agricultural sector

Chisinau, 28 October /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved the signing of an agreement between the Finance Ministries of Moldova and Russia on the providing of non-refundable financial assistance to Moldova’s government worth up to 275 million Russian roubles (about 3 million euros), the government’s communication and protocol department has reported. .
The financial means envisaged in the bilateral treaty are to be distributed to the farmers of Moldova hit by the severe drought and crisis triggered by COVID-19 in 2020.
„I want to thank the partners from Russia for accepting our request. We come up with assurances that this money will be used according to its purpose, by the farmers who suffered in the wake of natural calamities,’’ PM Chicu said.
At the same time, the prime minister asked Agriculture Minister Ion Perju to prepare a regulation on the distribution of the financial means, so that the farmers hit by the natural calamities can receive the compensations seen in the act immediately after the agreement is signed.
The Russian side is to transfer the money provided for in the understanding during five days after the signing of the Agreement.
