Moldovan government approves strategy for ensuring independence, integrity of justice sector for next four years

Chisinau, 28 October /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet today approved the draft Strategy for ensuring the independence and integrity in the justice sector for 2021-2024 and the action plan for implementation. The goal of the strategy is to overcome the challenges, in order to improve the justice sector and proves the state’s commitment to ensure a justice sector, which is independent, impartial, responsible and efficient, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
„This is an extremely important document for Moldova, a document which includes the Strategy of reformation of justice and which provides for the independence of the justice system,’’ PM Ion Chicu said.
The document of policies contains three strategic directions of intervention: the independence, responsibility and integrity of the justice sector’s actors; access to justice and the quality of the justice act; and the efficient and modern management of the justice sector.
„The improvement of the justice sector has been and remains a major priority for Moldova and represents an essential condition for the development of a democratic society. The way the justice is carried out influences directly the fundamental co-ordinates of the society’s work, legal security and economic development,’’ Justice Minister Fadei Nagacevschi said.
The draft was worked out by the Justice Ministry, with the support of the development partners. ‘’Much work has been carried out on this document and its elaboration and promotion was possible due to the full support provided by the Council of Europe. I want to thank the foreign partners, especially the Council of Europe, CoE secretary general, leadership of the Venice Commission, Justice Ministry colleagues, as well as all participants involved in the working out of this strategic document,’’ Ion Chicu said.
