Moldovan winemakers won several medals at competition in Asia

Chisinau, 29 October /MOLDPRES/- Moldovan winemakers won 57 awards at the largest profile competition in Asia - Asia Wine Trophy 2020, held on 11- 14 October in Daejeon, South Korea. The Grand Gold Medal has been got by the wines Cabernet Sauvignon Rose from Asconi winery and Chateau Vartely Riesling from Chateau Vartely winery, another 32 wines won the gold medal and 23 the silver medal.
Moldova participated with over 120 wine samples, of which 106 were supported by the National Office of Vine and Wine (ONVV). In all, over four thousand wine samples from 34 countries were registered in the competition, which were judged by 140 specialized international jurors.
According to statistics, Asian markets, especially China and South Korea recorded a dramatic increase in the consumption of imported wines, which contributed to increase supply. The latest profile studies show that the young generation is open to research and knowledge of quality wines, even if they are not part of the local traditional culture.
This year, the program of the Asia Wine Trophy, now in its eighth edition, included a conference with several thematic discussion sessions, and Moldova was presented as the country with the largest wine galleries in the world. Thus, the representatives of the National Office of Vine and Wine spoke about the millenary traditions in winemaking and wine tourism destinations we are proud of.
The Asia Wine Trophy is the largest and most important wine competition in Asia under the auspices of the International Organization of Vine and Wine. According to the Organization's regulations, only 30% of the wine samples can get medals. In 2019, at the same competition, Moldovan winemakers won 56 medals, including a Grand Gold Medal, 34 gold awards and 21 silver medals.
