Over 6,000 policemen to ensure public order on elections

Chisinau, 30 October /MOLDPRES/- Over 6,000 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will ensure public order at Sunday's presidential election. The General Inspectorate of Police made the statement today.
The head of the General Inspectorate of Police, Sergiu Paiu, said that the police will intervene in the coming days to maintain public order at the 2,139 polling stations and monitor compliance with anti-COVID prevention measures.
He noted that the police will ensure the security of all persons participating in the elections, will provide assistance to the electoral bodies and local public authorities in order to keep the material goods at the electoral councils and bureaus, to escort the transportation of ballot papers and to ensure their integrity. He added that on election day, the movement of road transport with a capacity of more than 8 seats and regular transport will also be monitored.
Deputy head of the IGP Marin Maxian said that during the campaign, 1100 electoral meetings took place on the territory of the country, attended by over 34 thousand citizens. Also, during this period, several violations were found, including 50 cases of illegal display and 24 cases of violation of anti-COVID-19 measures.
Police are also investigating five cases of violation of the law, including one of forging signatures on lists of intent.
Presidential elections will take place on 1 November in the Republic of Moldova. Eight candidates will run for the presidency.
