Moldovan informed about capacities of Balti-based Clinical Hospital to treat COVID-19 patients

Chisinau, 30 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu had a working meeting with the director of the Balti-based Clinical Hospital, Serghei Rotari today morning. At the event, the PM was informed about the present situation as regards the organization of the institution’s work in pandemic, the capacities of management and treatment of patients infected with the new-type coronavirus.
According to the government’s communication and protocol department, a Balti Covid centre was set up, with a capacity of 140 places and 60 oxygen concentrators, director Serghei Rotari said. At the moment, the hospital has needed capacities and places, in order to provide the treatment of patients from northern Moldova. The hospital’s director informed the PM about the necessity to buy an oxygen generator for the hospital worth 2.8 million lei. And this is in the context of the recording of an increased consumption of oxygen among patients.
Prime Minister Ion Chicu gave assurances that the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry (MSMPS), as founder of the Hospital, would allocate the financial means for purchasing the needed equipment and medical devices, as well as current repair of the building meant for COVID-19 patients, worth 6.2 million lei in all. The PM also said that the health condition of citizens was a priority for the government; therefore, necessary resources will be earmarked to buy the oxygen generator.
At the same time, Ion Chicu showed interest in the number of medical employees needed to cope with the situation. Serghei Rotari assured that, in this respect, there were no problems. He conveyed thanks on behalf of the entire staff of the Hospital for the measures taken by the cabinet as to the financial motivation of medical employees during the pandemic. In particular, Rotari appreciated the government’s initiative to significantly increase the performance pay to the physicians involved in the treatment of patients. ‘’The salary’s increase represents an important motivation for the medical staff on the period of the pandemic,’’ the hospital director added.
As many as 257 physicians, 637 medical employees with secondary education, 383 inferior medical staff and 257 other employees work at the Balti Clinical Hospital. The institution has a capacity of 750 beds and provides medical assistance on 41 profiles.
