Chisinau, 1 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) informs that more than 800,000 electors or about 30 per cent of those expected to come to ballot boxes voted till 15:00. The polling stations from Japan and China have already ended working and those 16 polling stations from the USA and Canada have opened for voting.

CEC head Dorin Cimil said that all polling stations from Moldova and those opened abroad presently worked as normal.

„In Japan, 24 Moldovan citizens voted for the presidential polls from 1 November 2020. As for China, the data has not been processed as yet. Agglomerations have been recorded at more polling stations from abroad so far,’’ Cimil noted.

The head of the central electoral body specified that, in the first part of the day, a notification submitted by an electoral contender, submitted to law-enforcement bodies, had come to CEC.

Dorin Cimil also said that the period of applications for the mobile ballot box had ended at 15:00. He reminded to the electors who vote abroad that the polling stations had a schedule starting from the local hour 7:00 till 21:00, except for the polling station of Baku (Azerbaijan) (which will close at 18:00) and Strasbourg, France (which will close at 20:00).

As many as 2.8 million people are expected to vote at the presidential elections. The first preliminary data on the results of the ballot will be unveiled at 22:00.

The voter turnout is lower than at the first round of the presidential polls from 2016, when over 36 per cent of the electors voted till 15:00.
