Four policemen detained for acts of corruption

Chisinau, 3 November /MOLDPRES/- Three agents from the National Inspectorate of Public Security and a police inspector from another inspectorate were reported to the CNA by several drivers who were allegedly stopped in traffic.

According to CNA data, the drivers claimed that in order not to draw up reports and not to be sanctioned, the police would have claimed bribes. CNA and anti-corruption prosecutors have opened several criminal cases on passive corruption and influence peddling.

Following the investigations, four cases were discovered in which the traffic agents allegedly demanded between 400 euros and 10 thousand lei from the drivers in order to get rid of their punishment.

This morning, CNA officers and prosecutors searched the homes of police officers, in their cars and collected from INSP documents relevant to the investigation. During the search, 218 thousand lei and 14,500 euros were found at the home of a police officer. Also, two policemen were detained right after the shift, and 600 euros, 200 dollars, 250 UAH and 1,000 lei were found on them. If found guilty, law enforcement faces up to 10 years in prison with deprivation of the right to hold public office for a certain period.
