Chisinau, 16 November /MOLDPRES/ - Acting President Igor Dodon, at a today’s news conference, ‘’preliminarily’’ congratulated Maia Sandu on the victory in the elections. Yet, Dodon said that he would contest the results of the ballot.
Igor Dodon went out before journalists after a meeting with the Moldovan top leadership. Dodon noted that his electoral staff had registered more infringements during the elections and that he was obliged to defend the votes of the citizens who voted for him, through appealing the results by all legal means: at the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), in court, Constitutional Court.
„I preventively congratulate her, but I am obliged to defend the suffrages of those who voted for me – at CEC, in court, Constitutional Court. I want to convey a message of those who backed me: I call on you and urge you to prove calm; categorically no kind of destabilization or protests. I match has ended, we start the next one. Nobody knows which one is more interesting,’’ Dodon said.
Dodon also said that he would be acting president till 24 December, with all constitutional powers and announced a round of consultations with the parliamentary factions and groups.
The preliminary data announced by CEC after the processing of all official reports shows that 57.75 per cent of the electors voted for Maia Sandu, and 42.25 per cent – for Igor Dodon.
