Travel by public transport could be paid with bank card in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 16 November /MOLDPRES/ - The municipal public transport system will test the electronic payment system during six months.  

At a today’s online meeting of the city hall’s services, the Chisinau general mayor, Ion Ceban, said that the municipal administrations of public transport of passengers would test the electronic payment in transport units during half a year.  

According to Ceban, in the piloting stage, the electronic payment will be applied on a route of trolley bus or bus and the Chisinau Electric Administration municipal enterprise and the Urban Park of Buses will sign contracts with providers of electronic payment services.

The testing, in the piloting regime, will be carried out by the MasterCard and VISA companies. This sees the setting of needed equipment and training of employees of the public transport municipal administrations. 

The mayor said that the operators nominated for testing the pilot project would not be favoured during tenders, which will be subsequently organized, for the implementation of the electronic payment system in the public transport of the Chisinau municipality.     

The project on the implementation of the electronic payment system in the municipal public transport will be implemented based on a public-private partnership, in order to improve the public transport service in the city, thus, removing the risk of forging tickets and financial damages brought because of this.
