Moldovan parliament amends laws on BNM

Chisinau, 19 November /MOLDPRES/- The project for strengthening the integrity and finality of the monetary policy, regulation and banking supervision decisions of the National Bank of Moldova / BNM /, was voted today in two readings by the parliament.

Thus, amendments were made to the Law on the National Bank of Moldova, the Criminal Code, the Criminal Procedure Code, the Civil Procedure Code, the Law on recovery and resolution of banks and the Law on banks.

The main provisions of the project concern the liability for the damage caused by the illegal administrative act of the BNM, the mechanism for determining the amount of material damage caused, the manner of bringing to liability the members of the governing bodies of the BNM.

The project was woked out by the National Bank of Moldova and improves the regulations on the framework for removing non-compliant shareholders in the banking sector, the compensation regime for damages caused by documents issued by the BNM and those related to the autonomy and accountability of the banking regulator.

The approval of the project is part of the commitments within the Program of the government and the International Monetary Fund.
