Moldovan foreign affairs minister has meeting with head of OSCE/ODIHR election observation mission

Chisinau, 20 November /MOLDPRES/ - Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Aureliu Ciocoi today had a meeting with the head of the OSCE/ODIHR (Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights) election observation mission, Corien Jonker, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.   

The Moldovan diplomacy head appreciated the role and importance of the international observers and the observation mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights in the process of monitoring the presidential polls.   

Aureliu Ciocoi referred to the actions undertaken by the MAEIE working group on the organization of the ballot abroad. The minister highlighted the good cooperation with the national electoral authority – Central Electoral Commission (CEC) in the process of organizing and carrying out the presidential elections.  

Touching upon the conclusions of the preliminary report, Corien Jonker noted that, in general, the electoral process had been held by observing the democratic principles, without major infringements. She appreciated the mechanisms of communication and cooperation between the observation mission and the national authorities during all mandate. The official specified that the mission’s final report was to be finished in the next two months and would be submitted to CEC and MAEIE.

At the same time, the sides discussed aspects on the electoral activity and process in Moldova and agreed on maintaining collaboration, in order to develop and promote an electoral democratic culture in Moldova.

This was the 15th monitoring of elections in Moldova by the OSCE/ODIHR election observation mission. The organization this year detached only the long-term team of observers and their conclusions and recommendations are contained in the monitoring reports published on the institution’s website.
