Moldova's Central Electoral Commission validates result of runoff election

Chisinau, 20 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today approved the results of the runoff of the presidential elections, held on 15 November.
CEC declared Maia Sandu as winner, who picked up 57.75 per cent of the suffrages or 943,006 votes. Igor Dodon got 42.25 per cent or 690,615 votes.
As many as 1.6 million votes were given and more than 1.9 ballot papers printed were not used and were, respectively, cancelled.
The central electoral administration specified that there were 2,789,010 citizens in the voters’ register. As many as 346,464 people voted on additional lists.
In the Chisinau city, Maia Sandu registered a score of 59.70 per cent and Igor Dodon – 40.30 per cent.
The overwhelming majority of the Moldovans from abroad voted for Maia Sandu – 92.86 per cent.
The runoff presidential elections took place in Moldova on 15 November. According to CEC, the voter turnout was a bit more than 1.65 million electors, which accounts for 52.78 of all citizens with right to vote.
The today’s ruling by the Central Electoral Commission is to be submitted to the Constitutional Court for consideration. The High Court will validate or invalidate the presidential elections.
