Japanese investors informed about benefits of IT business development in Moldova

Chisinau, 25 November /MOLDPRES/- Today Prime Minister Ion Chicu presented to Japanese investors the advantages of developing IT business in Moldova, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The Japan-Moldova business webinar was initiated by the Japanese Foreign Trade Organization (JETRO) and ODIMM. Attending the event were Japanes Ambassador to Moldova Katayama Yoshihiro, Deputy Managing Director of JETRO Tokyo Hoshino Yoshitaka, as well as representatives of state institutions.

The premier appreciated the bilateral relations of friendship and Moldovan-Japanese cooperation, constantly developed in various fields. "Sustainable economic development, supporting industrial growth, especially in agriculture, the development of small and medium enterprises, improving public services in medicine and education are among the main dimensions of Japanese assistance to the Republic of Moldova, for which I want to express gratitude and the highest appreciation ", Chicu said.

Several large companies with Japanese capital, such as Fujikura, Sumitomo Electric and Metal Products are successfully operating in the Republic of Moldova, bringing important investments in the country's economy, creating new jobs and generating benefits for growth. "I strongly believe that this investment is a proof of confidence in the long-term ability of the national economy and a good example for other investors in Japan," he said.

Among the main advantages of Moldova, important for attracting investments Chicu mentioned macroeconomic stability, fiscal and regulatory predictability, stability of the budgetary and financial-banking system, free trade agreements, and accelerated digitization that has become a reality in Moldova.

The IT industry is one of the sectors of the economy with the most dynamic growth and development, with a share of 7% of national GDP. Moreover, in the last 3 years, the export volume of IT services has registered a constant increase of 40-50% annually, due to the state support policies. The premier said that Moldova has all the prerequisites for the continuous growth of the IT industry and the BPO (Business process outsourcing) sector, including through its models of supporting the IT industry, such as Moldova IT Park, recognized worldwide as one of the most successful models for stimulating the IT sector, the park offers more facilities for its 620 residents, including a special tax regime, compared to other states.

He invited Japanese companies to explore the opportunities offered by the Republic of Moldova in the IT industry. "Connected to the digital markets of Western and Eastern states, with a modern ICT infrastructure, with skilled and multilingual labor, low business costs, IT park and IT legislation, the Republic of Moldova, a small but digitally literate country - is an ideal place for the development and piloting of new IT services and products ", he said.

The webinar will take place on 25-27 November 2020 and aims to inform the Japanese business community about investment and cooperation opportunities with the Republic of Moldova in the IT & BPO sectors.
