Ensuring cyber security - one of major priorities on government's agenda - Moldovan PM says

Chisinau, 25 November /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Ion Chicu participated today in the 8th edition of Moldova Cyber Week 2020, held this year in online format, entitled Developing a robust cybersecurity infrastructure in the new normal, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The event aims to raise awareness of the importance of cybersecurity and related challenges, assess new trends and identify ways to continuously improve digital trust.

The main topic of discussion focused on cyber security in the process of adapting countries to the New Normal and Reality, against the background of the global pandemic crisis. In this context, Prime Minister Chicu spoke about the role of technology at national and global level in relation to the changes dictated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for rapid digital transformation, especially on the socio-economic dimension.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has left its global mark on all areas of activity. This crisis continues to test the limits of such systems, such as medical or economic, by emphasizing the role of technologies. In a complex and ever-changing world, digital transformation is a necessity. Building an information society accessible to all citizens is imperative. And in order to respond adequately to the difficulties caused by the pandemic crisis, we are learning to appreciate even more the advantages of digitalization ", he said.

He stressed the importance of developing a secure, sustainable and resilient cyberspace, which involves an integrative approach of stakeholders, bringing together governments, ICT communities, industries, academia - an important synergy in developing effective resilience capabilities.

"Ensuring cyber security is one of the major priorities on the government's agenda. Our country is in a continuous process of strengthening cyber security at the national level. We need to develop a culture of cyber security through education, vocational training and research, public-private partnerships, cooperation mechanisms at regional, European and international level. The Republic of Moldova is open for the continuous development of international dialogue, exchange of knowledge and best practices in order to strengthen cyber resilience ", he said.

Moldova Cyber Week 2020 takes place on 25- 27 November. The event brings together several international experts from various countries around the world. For 3 days, they will be connected online for an exchange of experience and expertise in the field. The panels will address issues such as: combating cyber threats during a pandemic, protection measures for sensitive information and cyber security challenges.

The event takes place under the patronage of the government, being organized by the Information Technology and Cyber Security Service, jointly with the Technical University of Moldova, with the support of the International Union for Communications and the Council of Europe.
