Soros Moldova Foundation, UN Development Programme donate consignment of equipment to hospitals from Moldova

Chisinau, 26 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Soros Moldova Foundation and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have donated a consignment of equipment to hospitals from Moldova. The equipment, worth about 47,000 dollars, consists of oxygen concentrators, pulse oximeters, medical monitors and one ventilator.
The donation event took place took place today and attending were the UNDP resident representative in Moldova, Dima Al-Khatib, and the executive director of the Soros Moldova Foundation, Petru Culeac.
„UNDP Moldova firmly supports the strengthening of the health system, in order to cope with the pandemic crisis, including through purchasing needed medical equipment. Thus, we are grateful to the Soros Moldova Foundation for joining us in this mission of providing the critical assistance, which can relieve the travel full of risk of patients infected with COVID-19 and the medical staff who take care of them,’’ Dima Al-Khatib said.
Petru Culeac noted that the equipment delivered was part of a string of contribution by the Soros Moldova Foundation from the last eight months for the fight against the coronavirus. ‘’We are glad that we have possibility to help physicians, medical assistants, as well as all those who, being in the first line, dedicated themselves to rescuing of citizens’ lives,’’ Culeac added.
The equipment donated will allow health sector employees, who are in the first line in fighting the virus, to supply the patients suffering from COVID-19 with oxygen directly from the air, to measure how good oxygen is transmitted to various parts of the body and, respectively, to provide the oxygenation and ventilation of lungs of the patients in critical condition.
As many as 101,203 COVID-19 cases have been recorded in Moldova so far.
